It is a single malt Scotch whiskey distillery that has been producing whiskey for over 200 years on Islay, a small island located in the west of Scotland. Laphroaig means ‘beautiful wetland in a wide bay’ in Gaelic. The biggest characteristics of the malt whiskeys produced on Islay Island are the abundance of peat resulting from the wetlands and the harsh sea breeze. The strong smoky flavor of peat and the finish matured by the harsh sea breeze that comes and goes incessantly are the unique characteristics of whiskey from the Islay region.
